I've had a number of English-speaking friends of English parents (who, to the best of my knowledge, actually speak the language in which their children are being educated and have a decent understanding of the language) refer me to books and articles that explain the history of the spelling of their children's names. They are not surprised that my children's names have been changed since my daughter went to university. After all, the English-speaking friends have no clue as to what they're talking about.
I had thought of some other names that might suit some of the names of students at Australian schools, but thought it was a bit like saying, 'How's that boy now?' and not realizing that one of the names given is mine. After some thought, I've concluded that the spelling of my children's names should be an English surname, not an Australian surname. So in this area I am quite comfortable (except when it comes to spelling our children's names) with having some English names:

My eldest is a 'new' year at university. My second eldest, just turned sixteen, is in college. And so is my oldest son, 19, as yet undiagnosed with a tumour. I suspect my daughter's name, however, will be changed to something very different once she arrives in the future.
